The resistance trick that surprised even me...

Hi Reader,

Has this ever happened to you? You tell yourself you’ll do something, write, call, start, finish, and then… nothing. Three weeks have passed since my last newsletter, and every day I’ve thought, “today’s the day” but something held me back.

Well, this morning, I got curious about it. Rather than punishing myself or forcing myself, I decided to play with this resistance. What would happen if I started to write, from the place I am in right now, being in my body? What if I didn't have to know what to say and remained open to what came up? And the funny thing is, once I started writing, it just flowed out of me. (Of course, you may have already stopped reading because I'm just rambling and made no sense, but if you're still here, hit reply and tell me about a time you faced something similar. I'd love to hear your story.)

I'm tempted to open Perplexity, my favorite AI tool for day-to-day discussion and exploration, and find out all about the psychology or neuroscience of resistance, and stay here, in this moment. Does that happen to you, shiny thing syndrome, or sitting down to do one thing, and minutes or hours later, find that you've gone down some other pathway that takes you further away from your goal or desire in the moment? How do you bring yourself back? Or better yet, how do you catch yourself before you take the detour?

There's a theme here. If you want to make progress, there's a formula:

  1. Decide what it is that you want to do.
  2. Schedule it.
  3. When the time comes, sit down and do it.
  4. Repeat.

Simple, right? I didn't say easy, but it is simple. What makes it hard is the resistance that comes up at every point. Here's what it sounds like:

  1. I don't know what I want.
  2. I want to be spontaneous.
  3. I don't show up for myself and keep my commitments.

I wouldn't be Coach Damianne without an invitation for you. Take a few moments to reflect. What’s one dream you’ve put on the back burner? What’s holding you back, uncertainty, a desire for spontaneity, or trouble keeping commitments to yourself? Reclaim your joy by choosing one small action today.

If you'd like to chat with a coach, simply reply to this email to book a call.

Joyfully,
Damianne

P.S. Be kind to yourself throughout the resistance.

Hi Reader, Have you ever found yourself somewhere so unexpected, so out-of-the-ordinary, that you had to pause and ask: “What does this say about what’s possible for me?” A few weeks ago, I found myself wandering the golden deserts of the Middle East. I was in Dubai, Muscat, and Doha. These are places where you can find sand that stretches as far as the eye can see, yet humans have built glittering cities, lush gardens, and even reclaimed land from the sea. But the moment that truly stopped...

Hi Reader, Sometimes, we say we want something different for ourselves and our lives, but then we let days, weeks, months, even years go by without any changes. It's like we're just watching our lives pass us by. That dream you have, that change you want, how long has it been? Are you any closer to it? To turn dreams in reality, dreaming is the first step. It's an important step, but don't stop there. Once you have a dream, start taking action. It doesn't matter how small the steps are. If...
